Healthy Snacks On the Go

Suggestions for grab-and-go nutrition

Healthy Fruits

Instead of our usual recipe suggestion, this month, we’re bringing you healthy snack ideas! What’s the healthiest snack? The snack that you make beforehand. We’ve all been there: Suddenly starving and nothing but fast food and vending machines in sight. Prevent yourself from making an unhealthy choice by being prepared.

Don’t get caught snackless. Pack these snacks to have on hand when hunger hits.

Nuts. Even a handful of these easily-preserved, protein packed superfoods can curb your hunger and give you energy to make it to your next meal.

Granola bars. Granola bars have gotten a bad wrap recently, but they aren’t all created equal—or equally sugary. Read the lables before you buy and you’ll always have an ally in the bottom of your purse, diaper bag, glove compartment, or briefcase.

Fruit. Bananas, apples, and oranges are great choices for grabbing before you’re out the door. Other fruits, like grapes, strawberries, and kiwi take some preparation, but they are all sure to stave off hunger pains.

Hardboiled egg. Hard-boil a carton at the beginning of the week and have a dozen healthy snacks for days and days!

If you DIDN’T think ahead and pack something ahead of time, look for these healthier alternatives in vending machines or at the drive-thru:

Yogurt. Go for less sugar and more protein.

Protein bars. A staple of modern vending machines, protein bars are a better alternative.

Milk. White or chocolate, milk can help you stay hydrated and feel fuller longer.
