Chaplain Services

When you or someone you love is coping with an illness, it can be stressful. You may face a variety of emotions and question why such difficult things happen in life.

Howard Memorial Hospital’s Chaplain Services play an integral role in a patient’s care team. The volunteer chaplain staff is here to help provide the spiritual and emotional care you may need to face the difficulties posed by your illness as well as to support family and friends during times of anxiety, loss, and grief.

In addition to our chaplain services, we also provide a chapel/meditation room located in the main lobby, which is open to everyone for prayer and meditation.

Chaplains are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week

  • Meet with patients and their loved ones to listen to problems, concerns, fears and help answer questions
  • Provide emotional and spiritual support for patients, families and friends based on personal beliefs
  • Offer a supportive relationship to help make the most of a patient’s spiritual strengths
  • Help contact a patient’s own church or clergy
  • Assist in making difficult decisions
  • Offer pastoral counseling for grief or dealing with a new diagnosis
  • Help serve as a reminder of God’s love and caring presence

To contact a chaplain, simply see a nurse at any of HMH’s nursing stations. The nurse will be able to contact the on-call chaplain for that day.
